Flutterby Grew Into a Three-Day Weekend, and Watersound's November Now Runs Through It

The Flutterby Arts Festival is in its 34th year, and the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County has stretched it this fall. It now starts Friday evening and runs through Sunday at Watersound Town Center, with every event at 85 Origins Main St. So from November 6 to 8, the Town Center has an event every day of the weekend, and most of it happens on one lawn.

Four weeks later, on December 4 and 6, the Pavilion runs the same shape again: a Friday concert followed by a Sunday family event. The rest of the Town Center calendar between now and the holidays fits around those two weekends.

Three Days, One Address

The Cultural Arts Alliance announcement lists the full schedule. Each day builds on the one before.

  1. Friday, November 6, 6 to 8 p.m. The First Friday Fall Concert Series opens the weekend at The Pavilion. Nashville singer-songwriter and fiddle player Jessica Willis Fisher opens, and Americana roots rocker Webb Wilder headlines with his trio. Bring a chair and a cooler. A food truck will be on site.
  2. Saturday, November 7, 6 to 8 p.m. Flutterby Film Night is new this year, a free showing of A Bug's Life at The Pavilion. Families are invited to bring a picnic and chairs.
  3. Sunday, November 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main festival day has arts and crafts, interactive workshops, music, a Walton County student butterfly art exhibit, a butterfly wing creation station, a Monarch butterfly learning center, face painting, art demonstrations, carnival games, an inflatable slide, a toddler play area and the butterfly parades.

The Friday show is both a regular stop on the fall concert series and Flutterby's opening night. SoWal's listing for the series bills it as the Webb Wilder Trio with Jessica Willis Fisher opening. The Town Center's own events page calls the act the Webb Wilder Band. Either way, it's the same Friday night at the same Pavilion.

The whole weekend is free and open to the public. Some Sunday activities need tickets or tokens, which you buy at the Cultural Arts Alliance welcome and information tent inside the festival. Parking, including accessible parking, is on site.

Sunday Morning, Two Events on One Lawn

According to 30A.com's Watersound guide, the WaterSound Farmer's Market runs year-round on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Watersound Town Center. The festival opens at 10 a.m. on November 8. From 10 to 1, the market and the festival share the Town Center.

So the market has the place mostly to itself for its first hour that morning, before the festival opens at 10. From 10 a.m. on, the produce and maker tents sit beside the Flutterby tents, the parades and the food trucks.

The festival is also bringing back its Holiday Artist Market, where professional artists and makers sell one-of-a-kind pieces from tents during the festival. The announcement doesn't give separate hours for it, so plan on the festival's 10-to-4 window. That puts two markets on the same Sunday morning: the weekly one with groceries and the once-a-year one with holiday gifts.

This year's official Flutterby artwork, used on the 2026 promotional materials, is by a student at Freeport Elementary. Festival merchandise will be for sale, and food trucks will serve lunch, sweets and drinks through the afternoon.

The Trail Behind the Butterflies

Flutterby celebrates the Monarch butterfly's migration through the area. The St. Joe Community Foundation describes Northwest Florida as part of the monarch's migration path, and says monarchs use the Walton County trail in the fall. Monarch Watch puts the fall migration between September and November. A festival on November 8 falls inside that window.

The trail is the Watersound Monarch Art Trail, a mile-long walking and biking path along South Watersound Parkway between Highway 98 and 30A. It has eight original sculptures. It was built in 2021 as part of the Cultural Arts Alliance's Art in Public Spaces program, with support from the St. Joe Community Foundation. During Flutterby, the self-guided tour includes audio from the sculptors about their work and information on the native landscaping around it.

The Cultural Arts Alliance lists the works and artists:

  • Tetelestai by Jeffie Brewer
  • Kaleidoscope by Jonathan Burger
  • The Grandchildren Return by Grace Cathey
  • Dancing Monarchs by Peter Hazel
  • The Golden Flight by Rachel Herring
  • Roost and Puddle by Anthony Heinz May
  • The Milkweed by Mark Metz
  • Friend of Mine by Andrew Hamilton Reiss

SoWal's guide to the trail calls the Metz piece The Milkweed King, so you may see both names on a walk. Because the trail runs the full mile between the two highways, it works as a Saturday morning outing on its own. That way you've seen the sculptures before Sunday's crowds arrive at the Town Center.

Four Weeks Later, the Same Shape

The Flutterby format repeats in early December. The First Friday series returns to The Pavilion on December 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., with the Michelle Malone Trio and an Art Bazaar from 4 to 8 p.m. Two days later, the Watersound Origins community events page lists Winter Wonder Watersound for Sunday, December 6. The event's own page lists Santa, carolers, cookie decorating, letters to Santa and a children's theatre performance. It hasn't posted a start time yet.

Side by side, the two weekends line up closely:

Flutterby weekend Early December weekend
Friday evening Nov. 6, 6–8 p.m., Webb Wilder with Jessica Willis Fisher Dec. 4, 6–8 p.m., Michelle Malone Trio
Added to Friday Opens the Flutterby weekend Art Bazaar, 4–8 p.m.
Saturday Flutterby Film Night, 6–8 p.m. Not yet scheduled
Sunday Flutterby Arts Festival, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Winter Wonder Watersound, time not yet posted
Shopping layer Holiday Artist Market Art Bazaar on Friday
Weekly market Sunday farmers market, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Sunday farmers market, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

The farmers market row comes from 30A.com's year-round listing. Both Fridays are part of the same concert series, and both Sundays are built for children. Both weekends also have a shopping event on top: holiday gifts from artists in November, an Art Bazaar in December. If you're planning visits from family or a holiday shopping day, these two Fridays are good anchors.

What the Storefronts Add in Between

The storefronts are changing around these weekends too. In August, The St. Joe Company announced that Johnnie-O, the California-inspired men's and boys' apparel brand, had opened at Watersound Town Center. In the same release, St. Joe said Anthropologie had signed a lease for a store of about 9,000 square feet. It will include an Anthropologie Weddings bridal shop, an in-store bridal service offered only at select locations nationwide. No opening date has been announced.

The bridal theme continues in another St. Joe business. In a September 9 release, St. Joe announced Watersound Weddings & Events. Its planning services were already available, and its storefront at Watersound Town Center is expected in early 2027.

So between the November and December weekends, Johnnie-O is the newest store you can actually shop. Anthropologie has a signed lease but no opening date, and the Watersound Weddings & Events storefront is planned for 2027.

The Pavilion's calendar from November 6 to December 6 is one of the details our team tracks for Watersound residents and for guests in town for a season.
